AAS Club

Ms. Brown, the AAS club went to the Children’s Shelter on 1/15/2010 and 3 -1/2 hours with the children.  The Club took Build A Bears, pizzas, footballs, basketballs and arts & crafts materials for the children.  This is an ongoing project for the AAS Club.  They will be going once a month and more if time allows and 10 volunteers go at a time.

The AAS Club also participated in the Marines Toys for Tots program and donated over 700 toys.  The Marines called us and told us CPC was the largest participant in the community.  Additionally, the Club participated in the MDA Walk on February 6, 2010.  There were 7 members participating.
The Club now has 20 members plus sponsors.

CPC Medical Club

The CPC Medical Clubs are “the hosts” for The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.  Quarterly the Medical Clubs search out 80–120 student and staff volunteers as donors… giving back to our local community!

Annually, both the AAS Club and the Medical Clubs volunteer for the MDA Roundup at local restaurants.  The Medical Clubs and Medical Division Staff walk the annual MLK Walk.

Tech Club

Information Technology Professionals (ITP) is the primary society of information technology students at Career Point College who seeks, trains, and develops the finest students enrolled in its PC Tech/Networking programs. Our mission is to serve our students, faculty, and staff, and most importantly, our community, by offering technical support and information on technological issues pertaining to the learning and development of our members through in house training and community volunteerism.

Most recently, most of the association’s members volunteered for the KSN sports network.  At KSN’s events the association’s members spent time mentoring and helping with children at all ages at some of the local San Antonio Spurs games.  There, the members participated in helping the children play sports games and learn the fundamentals of teamwork through the use of several technology driven tools such as electronic gaming consoles and electronic game simulators.  Another recent activity that the association has recently organized for the community was a food drive raising over 200 lbs of food.  The food was donated to two of the local children’s shelters.  Through recent bake sales, the association has also raised over $200.00 which will enable the group to organize some field trips to local business such as Rackspace and Our Lady of the Lake University.

Although the community service is a big part of the IT Association’s mission, computer repair and services remain our focal point.  In the last 3 months, the members have repaired over 50 computers!  The problems range from virus removal to complete system overhauls.  All the money raised will in turn be used to train and develop our students as well as allow them to deliver high quality support throughout the Career Point College community.

In the near future, ITP is organizing a fund raiser involving sausages on a stick and other summer time goodies.  Some of members are also planning on participating at the FIRST tech challenge this March at Northwest Vista College.  This event involves a robotics competition aimed at middle and high school students.

Legal Club

The Career Point College Legal Council was established in January 2005 shortly after the introduction of the Legal Secretary Program at Career Point College.  The goals of the Council are to:

1. encourage student-directed activities that provide opportunities for self-realization & growth.
2. promote the welfare of the student body.
3. promote & involve the student body in human services activities, school & community wide.

The Legal Council has been involved in a variety of community service projects like voter registration drives, campus cleanup, Project Cool (providing box fans for senior citizens), the MLK march, and assorted holiday projects for needier students.

In addition to service projects, the Legal Council has sponsored a variety of field trips for Legal Students.  Students have taken trips to the State Capitol Building, LBJ Presidential Library, George Bush Presidential Library, and various state and federal courts.

Membership in the Legal Council is open to any student at Career Point College.  Meetings are on Wednesdays at 12:30 pm in room 138.
